AVP for Utilities and Energy Management, Juan Ontiveros

Juan Ontiveros has led the university’s Utilities & Energy Management department in various roles since 1997, culminating in his current position of Associate Vice President. He is responsible for energy production at the university plants, distribution of produced energy to the campus, and management of purchased utilities including domestic water, sewer, storm sewer, and natural gas. Juan has been involved in design, construction, maintenance engineering, project management and plant operations since 1973. Starting in the late 1980s, he began focusing more specifically on facility maintenance, plant operations, utility master planning, construction and utility rate negotiations.

Juan is a member of the board of directors and a past chair of the International District Energy Association. He holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from The University of Texas at El Paso and is a Licensed Professional Engineer in Texas.

We provide reliable and cost-effective electricity, chilled water, steam, deionized water, compressed air, emergency power, and elevator services for The University of Texas at Austin.
