New Vice President Role for People and Talent

Dear FAS colleagues,

Today, President Jay Hartzell is announcing the creation of a new role, Vice President for People & Talent, who will report to the president and will help the university reimagine our approach to people and talent management. This new leadership role will focus on increasing the university’s competitiveness as an employer and ensure the university becomes a top destination for talent.

Attracting and retaining talent is one of the university’s top priorities, highlighted in the UT Strategic Plan, Change Starts Here. This new vice president will help the university navigate the challenges created by Austin’s growth, the shifting demographics and changing expectations of current and prospective employees, and other needs highlighted in the UT Strategic Plan.

While Central Human Resources will eventually move, Payroll Services will remain part of FAS. Also, human resources teams within colleges, schools, and units, like our FAS HRSS team, will also remain within their respective units. Faculty hiring will continue to be managed by Academic Personnel Services and Faculty Affairs will not be impacted by this change.

Our Central Human Resources team has done an excellent job being nimble and innovative in the face of unprecedented change like those introduced in the COVID-19 pandemic, new technical tools like the implementation of Workday and the Limeade wellness platform, and new legal requirements and changing policies and processes. We look forward to continuing our close relationship with our HR colleagues as they embark on this new opportunity for growth in support of recruiting and retaining the best staff talent.

Regards,
