As summer comes to a close, I wanted to provide an update on where we stand with our plans for the fall and share some important reminders about COVID-19 precautions and guidance we should all be mindful of as we enter in the fall months.

Thank you for your extraordinary commitment to health and safety in the months since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Together you have contributed to the decline of COVID-19 cases on our campus by wearing masks, social distancing, and keeping hands and workspaces clean.

Thank you for persevering during the more than 14 months since the COVID-19 pandemic began affecting how FAS and the university do business. You have continued to exemplify our Core Values in how you perform your work, whether on campus, remotely or a hybrid combination of both.

Melissa Loe will be Interim Chief of Staff effective June 14 following the upcoming departure of Tara Trower. Melissa has gained a deep knowledge of our diverse portfolio and our complex university since joining FAS in January 2019 as Director of Communications. She will continue to be a key contributor toward advancing our strategic initiatives while further supporting FAS in this role.

As part of our ongoing efforts to further operationalize the FAS core values of stewardship, teamwork and service, I am writing to share that Information Quest (IQ) is organizationally joining Information Technology Services (ITS) effective today. Director David Pavkovic will report to Assistant Vice President Trice Humpert.

As President Jay Hartzell mentioned in his email this afternoon, our campus will reopen tomorrow, largely due to the tremendous efforts of FAS employees.

I want to take a moment to thank each of you for doing your part to support our campus and community during the extraordinary weather event we are experiencing and its unexpected consequences. Many of you are without power and other utilities, which is a tremendous strain on you and your family. Our thoughts are with you throughout this time.

In my June 19, 2020 email to FAS, I shared plans to form a committee of staff from across our portfolio to advise me and our senior leadership team on strategies to help build a culture of inclusion, equity and diversity. On December 11, I reached out again, this time to encourage staff members to apply to participate in the new Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee.
